Custom Catering by Ginger Grape

We were hugely fortunate to be able to work with Ginger Grape at a function we co-hosted last year in Joburg.  Owner-managed, custom-caterers, they tailor food, bar services, event design and décor and entertainment to their clients’ individual needs with no job being too big or too small.  They use only fresh produce and offer on-trend suggestions.  Jacques is an absolute pleasure to work with and nothing is too much trouble.

Current trends include:

  • Action Food Stations – food is prepared in front of the guests and is made to order
  • Mobile Food Trolley – a single food item is served from a Mahogany food trolley which is wheeled throughout the venue.  This works especially well at venues with multiple rooms where guests cannot move around easily
  • Dessert & Cheese Installations – these are set up after dinners instead of traditional plated desserts

Key clients have included Norton Rose, 24 Carrots, Standard Bank, Investec, Sappi, SAB Brutal Fruit (Kardashian Event) and FNB among others.

Centrally located in Park Street in the Johannesburg CBD, contact Jacques directly for more information, quotes or ideas:

A Touch of Red at Shine

We had a great time last week Thursday at Shine, where we sponsored and held the last Jozi Wrap Party of the year in conjunction with Film & Event Media.  Everyone was encouraged to wear a touch of red and to bring their festive spirit to the fabulous venue in Braamfontein.  A huge thank you and well-deserved enthusing goes to:

First off, the venue itself.  Film- and event-friendly with highly adaptable facilities, super-willing and helpful staff and the attitude whereby nothing is too much trouble.  We have built up an excellent relationship with Shine in a relatively short space of time, hence approaching them to host this event in the first place.  With two awesome venue spaces (loads of light, height, balcony space and great views), two film studios, a fashion space complete with infinity curve and plenty of breakaway rooms – it’s a no-brainer to give this venue a try for your next shoot or event.

Ginger Grape catered most exquisitely and more than adequately (in fact just to think back on their food is making my mouth water) with the most delectable canapés.  After the speeches we were treated to a bread, cheese, turkish delight and truffle selection which was of course beautifully presented.  The staff were also phenomenal and ensured that guests drinks were continuously refilled, they were impeccably mannered and simply top-class.

Thanks also to Lourensford Wines, VISI and Lindt for their sponsorships and to R1 Security for their guards and services provided throughout the night.

Report back on Cannes

View of Cannes Harbour

After a fun-filled, Rosé-fueled week in Cannes, it’s back to reality.  But not before a little update on all the happenings!

Much gratitude to Philippa for the endless hours of fundraising and organisation – after all the build-up to Cannes over the past months she and Chris pulled off a brilliant South Africa Party at the Plage Royale on Friday night.  We were also able to hang out there for most of the week and created a very casual S.A. base for ticket collection and promotional material.

It was very much go-go-go from the moment of arrival.  We were hosted very generously by Kodak on their boat on Tuesday and Thursday for drinks functions as well as for a South African Industry brunch on Wednesday morning.  Plage Royale proved an excellent base from which attendees could collect party tickets for Friday night and we could enjoy delicious lunches.  Thursday started out very tame and ended at the obligatory Gutter Bar at 4 in the morning, after enjoying some Swiss hospitality and then a raucous evening at the Shots Party.  Friday evening was brilliant fun, after Philippa, Ray and I bruised fingers tying helium balloons!

All in all, a really enjoyable time and a final thank you once again to all the sponsors who made this event possible: AFS Productions, Gatehouse Commercials, Lucky Rabbit Films and Moonlighting Film Production Services as well as Amazing Spaces, AVIS, Cinemark, Film & Event Publishing, Groundglass, Juice Film, Media Film Service, One Step Beyond, Panavision, Pioneer Freight, Searle St Post and Unitravel.  You can also see more on the Facebook Group Page for the event.

Cannes Lions Advertising Festival 19 - 25 June

It’s almost time for one of the most exciting advertising festivals of the year – Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity!

We’ve joined a private initiative to collectively market and showcase South Africa as a commercial shoot destination.  It’s going to be the 7th year running that there’ll be such a collective and we’ll be hosting a ‘South Africa Party’ on Plage Royale in Cannes (yes, right on the beach) on Friday 24 June from 10pm.  The party is being arranged by Philippa of Big Bash Theory and is set to be a magnificent success.  If you’re going to be around drop me a line as it’s invites only – so best be quick!  You can also find more info on the Facebook Group Page

We will also be hanging around sunning ourselves on the Plage Royale during the days if you want to pop in and say hi.  See you there and a big shout-out to all the sponsors who’ve got involved.

Film Industry Wrap Party at The Westin Grand

One of my personal favourites in our location database, because it photographs so beautifully, The Westin Grand was host to The Callsheet‘s April Wrap Party.  They did an absolutely brilliant job with the catering especially, not only was there plenty of delicious food, but it was beautifully presented and served.

Definitely a consideration for your next cocktail function, corporate event or meeting!
